Horses and ponies are mammals. There are different kinds of horses and ponies. They can do different jobs.

What is a pony?
A pony is a kind of small horse with short legs. Ponies have thicker coats and manes than horses.

Shetland ponies are one of the smallest horses. But they are strong and children can ride them.

Wild horses
Wild horses are not kept by people.
They live where there is a lot of grass to eat. Lots of wild horses live together in a herd.
Horses are good at hearing and seeing. In the wild they need to spot animals that want to eat them, so they can run away fast.
Horses have the biggest eyes of any land mammal.
