Cotton-top tamarins
The cotton-top tamarin is a small monkey.
It lives in forests in South America.
What they look like
The cotton-top tamarin gets its name from the long tuft of white hair around its black face. The fur on its back is brown and underneath it is white.
A cotton-top tamarin has a long tail. The tail helps it to balance.
Cotton-top tamarins have claws. Their claws help them to climb up trees.
What they eat
They eat fruit, insects and bird eggs. They drink water by licking raindrops on leaves.
How they live
They live in groups. The adults of the group work together to feed and carry the babies. A baby tamarin can do things for itself after 2 months.
They spend a lot of time in trees looking for food. Lots of leafy branches give them cover. This cover helps hide the tamarins. They must hide from the beady eyes of birds of prey.
When they see predators (such as snakes), they try to scare them away. They fluff up their fur and make loud noises.
